Radical Flashlight

Thank you for your interest in Radical Flashlight for Blackberry smart phones.

Radical Flashlight Main ScreenRadical Flashlight Color Screen

Radical Flashlight was design specifically for the Blackberry Storm and makes full use of the touch screen with stunning custom graphics and custom buttons. A fusion of art and function. Radical Flashlight is now available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Tour 9630, Curve 8900 and Bold 9650.

PLEASE NOTE that developers are not allowed access to "Automatically Dim Backlight". Until we are, Radical Flashlight requires the user to turn the AutoDim feature off.

PLEASE NOTE that developers are still not allowed access to the camera light without starting the video camera. So we do NOT use the Camera Light and we are NOT as bright as the camera light. However, we consider this to be a good thing. Too bright a light can be distracting in a vehicle, a movie theater, and other dark areas. Plus, more light generally means more power and we know we do not usually have much excess battery power at the end of the day. If we are allowed access to the camera light in the future we will add it as an option.

This is one of the few, or perhaps the only, Flashlight application that allows you to:
- Turn the flashlight on and off using one of the side convenience keys
- Select Different Colors and effects.
- Select an SOS flashing signal for emergencies
- Select whether or not the display screen is used in conjunction with the Status LED, or if it should be turned off to conserve energy.

Tip: Makes a great mood light for the bedroom.

Selected color, side convenience key and other information is saved between program sessions.

Radical Flashlight FAQ

OS 5.0 Information: We had hoped that the new operating system, OS 5.0, would give developers access to <Automatically Dim BackLight> and to the camera light without starting the video camera. Unfortunately Research in Motion (RIM) did not give us access yet. If you would like Radical Flashlight to have access to <Automatically Dim BackLight> and to have an option to use the camera light, feel free to email RIM at help@rim.com and ask them to give developers access to these features.

Automatically Dim Backlight: Until RIM gives developers access to the Auto Dim Backlight function, set <Automatically Dim Backlight > to 'Off'. The <Automatically Dim Backlight> function is located under <Options><Screen/Keyboard>.

If you set <Automatically Dim Backlight > to 'off', we recommend setting the <Backlight Brightness> to the value that is most comfortable to you. Note that the <Backlight Brightness> function does not affect the light output from Radical Flashlight.

How Do I Turn The Flashlight On Using a Side Convenience Key: Go to Blackberry <Options> <Screen/Keyboard><Right Side Convenience Key Opens> or <Options> <Screen/Keyboard><Left Side Convenience Key Opens> and select Radical Flashlight from the program list.

What are some of the colors used for:

Red: Used for night vision.

Green: Bug Light/Outdoor use like reading maps.

Yellow: Used for foggy conditions.

We hear blue, used with an additional orange filter, can be used for CSI and show fluid stains, etc. We haven't tried this one out.

Radical Flashlight 2.0 Goals

Super Light: We want to add an option to use the Camera light for a Super Light. This will require Research In Motion, the manufacturer of Blackberry smart phones, to allow programmers access to the camera light. There are a lot of programmers wanting access to the light, so hopefully we will see a change in policy in time for Radical Flashlight version 2.0.

Music Sync: Research In Motion has a music sync variable but no documentation. It is possible we might be able to use this to synchronize the LED to the music player.

Battery Meter: Add a battery meter to title bar. We do not have access to the theme controlled battery meter on the screen, but we should be able to make our own battery meter.
